Riba Pitxot sits right on the seafront promenade of Cadaqués, on Cap de Creus, the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most distinctive corners of the Costa Brava (Alt Empordà, Girona).
Geography
Cadaqués is a village of whitewashed houses spilling down to a sheltered bay, cut off from the rest of the Empordà by the Rodes mountains. That barrier kept it isolated for centuries —it is reached only by a winding road— and shaped its unique character. It is surrounded by the Cap de Creus Natural Park, with landscapes of rock sculpted by the Tramontana wind and coves of crystal-clear water.
History
A seafaring and fishing town since the Middle Ages, Cadaqués lived off the sea, coral, wine and also smuggling. Its isolation forged a character of its own. High above the village, the church of Santa Maria (16th–17th centuries) holds a spectacular Baroque altarpiece and offers the best views over the bay.
Culture & famous names
Above all, Cadaqués is the land of Salvador Dalí, who lived and painted in the neighbouring cove of Portlligat, now a house-museum. Its light and magnetism drew artists and intellectuals from around the world: Federico García Lorca, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Paul Éluard, Joan Miró and even Walt Disney all passed through. That legacy lives on in galleries, music and festivals.
Gastronomy
Cadaqués cuisine is sea and Empordà: fresh fish, the classic suquet de peix (fish stew), sea urchins (the winter garoinada), anchovies and rice dishes, paired with DO Empordà wines and fine olive oil.

On the ground floor of Riba Pitxot, 2 you'll find Es Gelat, the only shop in Cadaqués selling Gelats Angelo: the artisan ice creams of Angelo Corvitto, named best gelato maker in the world at the Identità Golose congress (2006). A treat right downstairs.
